General Overview
Planned by Duany Plater-Zyberk & Company, Seaside was designed with one goal in mind - to create a social atmosphere where people enjoyed to be.  The community focuses on walkability, and architectural elements, such as porches, that promote community interaction.  Seaside is approximately 23 miles east of Destin and 30 miles west of Panama City Beach in the panhandle of Florida.

Seaside is characterized in large part by the traditional style of the South. Like its neighbor and successor WaterColor, Florida cottage-style homes with clapboard siding and metal roofs line up behind picket fences that run along the shaded path-like streets of Seaside. Tower rooms are not uncommon elements and peek up above roofs for a glimpse or extended view of the Gulf. Greco-Roman elements are also found in many of the Gulf-front homes as well as those along the grand Seaside Avenue.

There are many activities and services available in Seaside.  The Seaside Swim & Tennis Club offers three swimming pools, six Har-Tru HydroCourts tennis courts, a world-class croquet lawn, fitness center, shuffleboard, and a playground.  The largest of the three pools is located at the corner of Forest and Odessa Street, while the adult pool is at the northeastern end of Seaside Avenue and the family pool is located at the east end of Forest Street.

Popular Seaside restaurants include Bud & Alley's, Great Southern Cafe, Crush Wine Bar, Modica Market, Barefoot BBQ, Pickle's, and Raw & Juicy.

Seaside offers nine pavillions for beach access which are named after the streets they anchor.
