Wine festivals galore, quirky artwork around nearly every corner and world-class architecture throughout, locals know 30A is home to rich art and culture. Today we’re sharing a favorite gallery and event that are sure to inspire and rouse artistic senses.
Justin Gaffrey Gallery – Blue Mountain Beach
One of the great 30A artist stories, Justin Gaffrey rose from local chef to sought-after painter as his signature “sculpting with paint” works of art of evolved over the years. With a former gallery in Rosemary Beach and a current gallery space in Seaside, the most interesting location of Justin’s is his gallery in Blue Mountain Beach, which also serves as his family’s home. The sight of the thick, dripping slices of paint are fascinating and the colorful clumps cover nearly every surface from the floor to tables, to Justin’s shoes, jeans and of course, the palette knife that helps him create these beautiful works of art.
Insider Tip: Even kids love seeing the artist’s work in progress and Justin has been known to let little hands help create a flower petal or two when they visit.
Artsquest – Grand Boulevard
Over 125 artists bring their talents to South Walton each year on Mother’s Day Weekend. With past festivals at Eden Gardens, Seaside, Watercolor and Sandestin, this year, white tents will line the streets and lawn of Grand Boulevard with colorful canvases, photography, wood work, jewelry and other mediums spilling out during the 26th annual event. Featured artist Juan Francisco Adaro has been selected to represent the festival for 2014 and the contemporary painter’s work is one to watch. The “controlled accident” style with faded yet colorful ladies and gentlemen is transfixing. Enjoy art, music, wine, food and plenty of inspiration during this year’s festival schedule.
Insider Tip: Catch some of 30A Songwriter’s Festival favorite artists perform during Artsquest and be sure to check out the Gourmet Galley dining options.
Stroll 30A and imagine yourself living, working and playing in a beautiful neighborhood like Alys Beach. Everyday luxury might involve early morning bike rides to Charlie's Donut Truck, lounging carefree in the plush grass of the amphitheater, pedaling along the cobblestone streets and enjoying a delicious dinner or sunset cocktail at Caliza Pool.
